Making OpenID easier to use and more secure… all at once

With the launch of ID Selector the OpenID community has hopefully staved off an epidemic of button proliferation and made the technology much easier to use. The feedback has been very positive so far, and it looks like we may have a winner. This is a positive step toward making OpenID a technology so simple that someone could be using it without even knowing <gasp>!

This is such a cool service that we have integrated ID Selector with our myVidoop affiliate program in order to make it as easy as possible for our affiliates to setup their own ID selector. All you need to do is login to affiliates.vidoop.com, go to your sites list and click on ‘Get OpenID Selector’, enter some basic information, copy the generated code and add it to your login page. Thats it…

Now that OpenID is easier to use we also need to make it more secure. There is never a lack of OpenID detractors, which is good, they keep us honest. In response to feedback regarding OpenID security we have begun offering Confident Technologies RecognitionAUTHâ„¢ solution to OpenID providers who want to offer an added level of security to their members.

Three leading providers (ClaimID, Clickpass and ooTao) have already announced they will be using RecognitionAUTH to secure OpenIDs across their sites…

“We are really excited to be able to add ConfIdent’s ImageShield to our existing Clickpass network,” said Peter Nixey, CEO of Clickpass. “It’s almost a contradiction in terms to have one product offer both extra security and ease of use but that’s exactly what people will get with ImageShield and their Clickpass.”

“ConfIdent’s elegant ImageShield will allow us to add two-factor authentication without a lot of hassle,” said Terrell Russell, co-founder of ClaimID. “We are excited to offer increased security to our customers.”

If you are interested in using ID Selector check out IDSelector.com or join our affiliates program. If you want to offer your members an extra level of security when they login stop by ConfIdentTechnologies. Our RecognitionAUTH solution can be used on any website, it does not have to be an OpenID provider.
