Survey: Corporations still in the dark with open standards
New data released by social media application provider Prospero Technologies has highlighted not only an interesting, if somewhat disturbing trend in the social networking space, but also a potential opportunity for Vidoop as well.
Specifically, despite the rise in the popularity of OpenID and microformat initiatives, of the more than 50 companies surveyed by the firm, including a wide range of disciplines from e-commerce to print and broadcast media, some 43 percent of these organizations have yet to review any open standard initiatives, and have not included these activities in their list of priorities for the coming year. 14 percent of those companies surveyed said that they “fully” support such open standards as OpenID, while 22 percent stated that they would adopt such standards in the future barring any potential security concerns.
What’s the relevance here? Well, given Vidoop’s unique approach to login security, this sort of data would seem to cast a silver lining on an otherwise near-term bleak outlook for open standards, positioning our company in the enviable circumstance of being able to offer those firms on the fence a viable solution that is both cost effective and relatively painless to implement. In addition, Prospero vice-president and co-founder Rusty Williams explains that some 12 percent of respondents cited looking to advertising as a “sophisticated” revenue stream for their companies, further highlighting a potential opportunity for Vidoop’s ability to offer product placement on its Dynamic Image Grid.
