MyVidoop, Gotta Catch’m All!
When developing software, the importance of tracking changes and updates cannot be understated. To this end, here at Vidoop we have come up with a creative method of software versioning that is as efficient as it is reflective of our fun and relaxed work environment – Pokemon. Yes, those cute, infectious critters of gaming and cartoon stardom have also found a role in keeping our heads on straight at Vidoop proper.
True, we could have gone the more traditional route and named our software versions using numbers carried to a ridiculous decimal point value, but as many of us here are ourselves gamers the association made perfect sense in tracking the development of the foundation for myVidoop’s patent pending Dynamic Image Grid technology.
The cycle of development finds one development team release new changes from their environment every couple of weeks or so, after which a second team has a week or two to determine if these new additions break any existing functionality. Each of these releases is represented by a given Pokemon, and as work on new versions is begun, it is assigned to a different Pokemon in alphabetical order. Magikarp was the first Pokemon to be used in this way, while the current release is being tracked beneath Totodile’s supple shell. By tracking and overseeing the implementation of changes in this manner, this ensures that while we are constantly working to improve your experience using myVidoop, we are equally mindful of maintaining a secure, headache-free experience as well.
Interestingly, you may be curious as to why we began from the middle of the Pokemon list rather from the beginning, but the intent is to save the ‘A’ Pokemon for January’s roll out, so stay tuned. In addition, You might like to know that one of the things we are mulling over here for future additions to your myVidoop experience is to make this version information available from our myVidoop page, keeping you informed of not only the latest additions to myVidoop, but also things we are working on for future releases. Feel free to comment if this would be something you’d find useful, or if you’d just like to talk at length celebrating the virtues of Mewtwo.
